John Nelson, MD returned to his home roots in the Chattanooga area in 1987 to become one of the four founding physicians of Diagnostic Radiology Consultants (DRC) and serves as the current president. He is head of the mammography section of DRC's area wide practice and serves as the medical director of Battlefield Auxiliary Breast Center at Battlefield Imaging in Ringgold, Ga.
Dr. Nelson and the staff at Battlefield introduced digital mammography to the tri-state area in 2004 and dedicated breast MRI in 2007. Realizing the complex, comprehensive nature of breast cancer screening, Dr. Nelson and the women's imaging staff at Battlefield coordinated their breast cancer diagnostic services and were awarded the American College of Radiology's Comprehensive Breast Center Certification in 2008, also the first in the tri-state area.
