DRC Diagnostic Radiology Consultants

DRC History

DRC was founded more than fifty years ago to provide radiology services to Hutcheson Medical Center, then known as Tri County Hospital.

In 1992, Drs. Busch, Huntzinger, Nelson, and Cureton contemplated a broader mission for the organization and renamed the group "Diagnostic Radiology Consultants, P.A."  Over the last decade, DRC has expanded its services throughout the tri-state area and has seen its professional radiology staff swell to its current number of 11 board certified radiologists.

In 1996, DRC, in conjunction with Memorial Hospital, designed and oversaw development of a new outpatient imaging facility, known as Memorial Atrium Imaging Center located at the Memorial Atrium medical complex on Gunbarrel Rd.  Subsequently, DRC won CON approval to initiate MRI services at the Memorial Atrium facility and currently operates one high field and one low field open system at this location.

In 1998, DRC began providing professional services at North Park Hospital in Hixon, Tenn.  Working with Memorial Hospital, DRC modernized the imaging department, including the installation of the area's first 16 slice CT scanner.  Imaging volumes grew from 1400 to 4000 per month.  DRC discontinued professional services at this location in September of 2004.

In 1999, DRC became the first private practice radiology group in Tennessee to provide PET services.  DRC worked vigorously with third party payers, hospitals, and other physician groups to develop and expand this new and emerging technology and is considered the leader in PET services in this area. In 2004, DRC initiated their new PET/CT service, Diagnostic PET/CT, at their new facility located in the Diagnostic Center Office Building on the campus of Parkridge Hospital.

Throughout its history, DRC has worked closely with Hutcheson Medical Center in providing leading edge imaging services to the patients of North Georgia.  This long list of innovation includes: the areas first body CT scanner, Digital Subtraction Angiography, Remote Digital Flouro-radiolography, and a fully integrated Digital PACS imaging department.  DRC has provided 24hr teleradiolgy services to its physicians and patients since 1992.

In 2004, DRC and Hutcheson Medical Center designed and opened Battlefield Imaging, the areas only full service, all-digital outpatient imaging center.  The facility is located in the new Hutcheson on the Parkway campus on Battlefield Parkway adjacent to the new Fuller Cancer Center.  This state of the art facility offers such new services as PET/CT, the area’s only full field Digital Mammography, and Siemens newly released 1.5 Tesla high field open MRI.

Recognizing the need to provide professional services to the growing number of private physician groups who have begun to offer their own imaging services, DRC developed Specialty Networks.  This innovative company provides image data management and storage services to our clients, allowing DRC the ability to provide professional services as well as providing a cost-effective alternative to our physician clients to meet their image data archival and display needs.
