Bone scans measure the amount of bone in a particular site of the body, usually the lower part of the spine, the hip, the forearm or the heel. They are sometimes referred to as DEXA scans because of the technique used to obtain your bone mineral density. Doctors use the scans to help them to assess the likelihood of future bone fractures and whether any treatment is needed. DRC offers this service at the Tennessee Imaging and Vein Center, Chattanooga Outpatient Center, and Battlefield Imaging locations. See 'Your Exam' for additional patient information on bone density exams.
